Eph. 2:10...huh?
Some of you may have received a flake from me with "Eph. 2:10" written on it. That's a favorite verse from Ephesians in the New Testament Bible, which says:
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (NIV)
The word I really like there is "handiwork," which is translated from the Greek word poiema, a word translated in other Bible translations/paraphrases as:
- masterpiece
- workmanship
- accomplishment
- work of art
- heaven's poetry etched on lives
...to name a few.
This Scripture text encourages and esteems us as God's true works of art (and some of us are a "real piece of work"!). We are each beautifully original, and uniquely crafted for a unique purpose. You might say we're God's handiwork, cut-out for a special work! (See the connection with flakes?).
